St. Matthew's and Scouting
The Boys Scouts
and Cub Scouts meet every Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
The Boy Scout program has 14 active members and two leaders. One
boy is working on his eagle project and another just earned his
eagle award. The troop is involved in local service projects, overnight
camps (such as Bear Lake and camp Tracy) and jamborees. The troop
is
also looking at the Venture program for the Boy Scouts that are
14+
years of age.
Our Cub Scout program has incurred outstanding growth and has 28
scouts after advancing 8 second year Weeblos to the Boy Scout Program.
Our pack has eight fully trained leaders. The program offers two
leaders per den (Tiger Cubs, Wolves, Bears and Weeblos) except for
the Tiger Cubs as one parent is required to attend the meetings
and participate with their boy.
The Cub Scouts held their annual Pinewood Derby event in January
and it was a great success as well as their annual Blue & Gold
Banquet in March. Both events were overflowing with scouts and parents
and it was a fun time for the families and the scouts. Food was
provide free of charge to everyone. Upcoming events for 2008/2009
will be the Rain Gutter Regatta Race, Rocket Launch or Space Derby
Races, Scout-O-Rama (in which both our Boy and Cub Scouts will host
a booth), winter and summer camps, monthly outings, banner duty
in the Taylorsville Dayzs Parade, and several service projects.
