St. Matthew's Congregation Trend Report

St. Matthew's Mission Profile

Then and Now

St. Matthew’s congregation had it's beginning in the 1950’s and 1960’s with
membership in the early Utah mission churches of St. Paul’s in Kearns and
Atonement in Granger. The late 1980’s merger of these two congregations
became St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, and in March 1992 dedicated its
new building in the soon-to-be incorporated Utah City of Taylorsville.

Steadily increasing membership soon resulted in the need for additional
Sunday School space. In 1996 this prayerful congregation went forward in
pledging to a 3-year building commitment titled “Bring the Children Unto Me”

October 10th, 1999 the new education wing was dedicated. In gratitude to
God for His goodness to St. Matthew’s the special dedication offering was
divided among the three newest ELCA mission churches in Utah.
Tree of Life in Orem, New Promise in St. George, and Mountain of Faith
in Stansbury.

In December of 2003 our pastor, of 14 years, retired and we entered into
the call process as well as an agreement with Church Planning Resources
to help us create a new mission and vision statement that will carry us into
the future. In January of 2005 Pastor Gordon J. Young joined St. Matthew’s family.

In Jan of 2005 Pastor Gordon J. Young joined St Matthew’s.  During Pastor Young’s time with us we renewed our relationship with the Rocky Mountain Synod and grew in our relationship with God.

In June of 2011 Pastor Young moved on to a new chapter in his life, and St. Matthew's was blessed to welcome Pastor Jeffrey D. Louden to our family, in September of 2011.  The journey continues to be amazing.

THANKS BE TO GOD!

Besides the regular 10:00 AM Sunday worship service, there are
9:00 AM Sunday School classes for ages 3 through adult, as well as the
annual Vacation Bible School. There are strong Scouting programs, Men’s
and Women’s organizations and a very active Youth Group. Community
quilters, crafters and dancers are happy to have meeting places at
St. Matthew. It’s facilities are also rented on a part-time basis by the
Advantage Preschool and a Samoan Christian Congregation.

In addition to a very active congregational and community Faith in Action
Program, St. Matthew’s congregation is deeply committed to Lutheran
Social Services of Utah
.

The congregation of this friendly ELCA church extends a hearty invitation
to all who are seeking a church home.

WELCOME TO ST. MATTHEW'S
